About Me

5151.jpgMy name is Jonathan Chambers. Welcome to The Gospel Life blog.

Origins

I was born and raised in east central Florida for 10 years and grew up in a brotherhood-type denominational Christian church. My parents moved my brother and I to southern (and I mean “southern”) Georgia in 1991. Little did I know that this is where God would stretch me the most over the next 16 years. I am a talkative, organized, perfectionist, very detailed, and extremely silly, in a pathetic-kind-of-way guy. Why is this important? Because it’ll help you understand why I think/write the way I do.

Me

Well, I am a 26 year old….

  • Christian – I am trusting and believing in Jesus Christ’s person and work for my righteousness before God as my Lord, Savior, and supreme Treasure.
  • Reforming - I am always seeking to reform from my old self and be more conformed to my new self in Christ Jesus, whether through thought, word, or deed.
  • Song Leader – I am currently the song Leader at my church, church in the ‘Boro, under the Worship Leader (my pastor). I have been so for 9 months now. I have been singing my whole life. It’s really more of a musical theologian position or a singing shepherd. Because leading people to exalt in God’s greatness through singing is engaging their hearts with the Father. It’s a privilege, a burden and a great delight!
  • Husband - Married for 5 years now to my beautiful wife, best friend, and sister in Christ, Allison. (since Nov ‘04)
  • Daddy - Father to little baby girl, Gracie. (1 year 6 months old – September 17, 2009)
  • Son - Proud son of my parents who love God and trained me in the Lord.
  • DoubleBrother – Brother in flesh and spirit to Josh; otherwise called dubBro. (at SBTS training to be a pastor)
  • Blogger – At it since October 2005 on blogspot and moved to wordpress in ‘07.

(okay, so I kind of stole, err, borrowed this layout idea from Tim Challies. I don’t think he’d mind though)

Beliefs

My beliefs about the Gospel – HERE

Otherwise I believe in a triune God who is Sovereign and King over all things. He is Holy and Just and Loving and Good.

He is full of wrath, anger, and loving justice toward those who do not know Him and do not obey His Gospel; and full of mercy, grace, and loving justice again toward those who repent and have faith in His Son Jesus Christ. Who by the way is God in the flesh. Jesus Christ is the one and only way to God the Father. Hearing the Gospel is how one is converted and born again to new life. Born-again Christians must be about the Gospel in all of their doing and thinking. All Christians are to preach the Gospel and live the Gospel. The Church is the called out ones, the elect, chosen in God, by God, for God, for His purpose and pleasure for His glory alone. The Bible is God’s Holy, inerrant, infallible, inspired specifically revealed word. The Holy Spirit is the promised gift to the unbeliever that regenerates and sanctifies and prepares us for the great inheritance of heaven. Heaven is an actual place and the eternal resting place for Christians (i.e., those who repent and are justified by faith in Jesus Christ). Heaven is not some “pie-in-the-sky” dreamland of our fantasies coming true, but where children of God will forever worship, adore, honor, glorify, and enjoy their great God and Savior. Hell is an actual place and the eternal torture fire for sinners who rely on their own “righteousness” and do not know God. Hell is not “separation from God” but rather saturation of God’s wrath and judgment forever. Relentless anger and justice from God. All things created were given life to give glory and honor to God on High.

The Gospel is what gives life to dead men, raises them up from darkness to light and converts them from goats headed to Hell into sheep headed to Heaven. From God’s wrath to God’s grace and mercy. It creates God haters and mockers into God lovers and worshipers. It is this glorious and powerful Gospel that is central to all of Christian life. This Gospel is what we should live and die for.
