Gospel Truths

(specific ones located below divider line)

Gospel Truths are truths that define themselves by the Gospel. Their origin flows from the Gospel and therefore point back to the Gospel. They are made a reality directly because of the gospel. In other words, because of God sending His Son Jesus Christ to be born of a virgin, live a sinless life, die a sinner’s death, and resurrect from the dead defeating death, Hell, and the grave….many, many, many truths stem from that ultimate Truth and apply to us as well as many requirements are held to us. Because of Christ’s finished work on the cross, we believers receive eternal blessings and reap eternal benefits due to our faith in Christ as well as inherit many eternal traits and duties.

Eternally/Immediately Applied Passive Truths: believing in the Gospel of Jesus Christ means we are

  • Born again from above
  • Justified by faith
  • Redeemed by his blood
  • Forgiven of our sins
  • Washed and cleansed by the Word
  • Had our sins forgotten
  • Obtained peace from God through our justification

Eternally/Immediately Required Active Truths: believing in the Gospel of Christ means we have been called to

  • be the light of the world
  • be the salt of the earth
  • fulfill the Great Commission: preach the Gospel, teach the nations to observe all that Jesus has commanded, make disciples, and baptize in the name of the Father, the Son, and of the Holy Spirit
  • live a life of holiness and righteousness
  • love our neighbor and our enemies
  • separate ourselves from the world
  • suffer for the cause of Christ

Therefore the following are many examples of “Gospel Truths” that get their root and power from the Gospel. Some are passive truths that have already been applied to Christians while others are active truths that must/will be lived out by the Christian.

The reason knowing Gospel truths is so important is that it will help us to center our lives around a deeply theological and easily practical Gospel. Mind-boggling and eternally complex truth while being an obvious common-sense truth.

Redeemed from the Curse of the Law

Gal 3:13

13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”—

Become the Righteousness of God

2Cor 5:21

21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Dead to Sin, Alive to Righteousness

Rom 6:11-13

11 So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. 13 Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.
